Varamo Press embraces the unexpected and values the arbitrary circumstances in which writing comes into being. Snatching, wording, printing, it gives a paper form to various kinds of literature that have a fleeting life elsewhere.
The editors of Varamo Press, Mette Edvardsen and Jeroen Peeters, will share in conversation how and why they do what they do. How they imagine and realize publications, gradually building a catalogue in the process. And how these editorial questions intersect with their own artistic and writerly practices.
On this occasion, the artist and writer Augusto Corrieri will join them for the launch of Compromised by Magic, a new publication in the gestures essay series. In these writings on the intersection of theatre, ecology, magic and darkness, Corrieri unearths forms of knowledge and attention repressed by Western modernity in order to explore ‘particular modes of attending to worldly things – modes of attending that value impossibility, multiplicity, drift, impermanence and dislocation, that hold dear the importance of the un-seen, the un-extracted, the un-consumed. There are things not meant for human eyes.

ARTISTS
Mette Edvardsen is a choreographer and performer working with language, voice and writing as material for her pieces. Alongside her live works she has developed a publishing practice, both within her own artistic work as well as an independent small press. www.metteedvardsen.be
Jeroen Peeters is an essayist and dramaturge interested working across the media of writing, not-writing, performance and publication. He writes about art and matters such as ecologies of attention, material literacy, readership in the expanded field and cultural rewilding. www.jeroenpeeters.work
